Semi private tea ceremony at Globus tea house

Birthday for the friend, gift for sister, and more....

The hanging scroll at the alcove is a work of calligraphy by Shodo Maeda of Zuiho-in. It reads “Wa Kei Sei Jyaku”. Harmony, respect, purity and tranquility are the four principles of Chanoyu.

Generally chanoyu's annual cycle starts at the beginning of November, traditionally considered the beginning of winter. The ro (hearth) is opened at this time in the tearoom. This is known as the time of 'kuchikiri', when the seal on the chatsubo (jar of tea leaves) is broken and the tealeaves picked in spring are used for the first time.
